This has been an exciting month! filled with a lot of new adventures into the “making extra income” world. If you are new here you can check out my first post about making extra income where I talk about my plan.
All of my income came from doing extra design work. The truth is I can’t really rely on this happening every month, this work landed on my lap. I noticed how the moment I set the intention to the world loud and clear about what I wanted to do, all of a sudden I started getting emails and phone calls with unexpected design jobs and other jobs as well. I was grateful so I took them.
How I got these projects? I truly believe these projects were a result of putting myself out there.
For the agency I frequently send them my latests designs at least once or twice a month. For the other project I was referred by a friend who knew I designed but had recently seen my hand drawn work on my Facebook posts (she mentioned this to me) and thought I will be a great match for the project.
This is to say, whatever you do, is important to tell the world about it and keep them updated as often as you can. There are tons of other ways to get the word out there but I think these one were the ones that helped this time around.
I did two EXTRA design projects this month. The agency design work was great because it was short and quick. The other freelance project I got took me on the wrong direction. I ended up dedicating too many hours to that project which prevented me from creating new content and also prevented me from quality design hour for my own company.
However, that doesn’t mean I’m closing my doors to design work.
Is just that I need to better plan the work load I take on, as well as pick and choose better the type of work I involve myself with. And I think this is a great rule for anyone trying to make extra income using their career skills.
I’m still available for design work. Please send me an email and mention you learned about me on my extra income report if you are in need of my services and want a great price.
What I learned this month:
Focus on projects that create passive income vs projects that required consistent week work . E-book vs design artwork
Is better to grow slow than to take on financially rewarding projects that take my attention away from my goals.
Balance Balance Balance. Is tempting to burn myself out temporarily for the sake of a result. Yet is better to get to that result balanced and calmed even if it takes longer. Reminder for me: This is not a race!
Asking myself this question helps. Where is my time better spent? On creating valuable and useful content for my readers and on staying balanced and creative so my designs can inspire others
What I did this month for future income
I started my YouTube channel. I uploaded my first video you can see it here. I took a couple of hours to optimize my channel and make it SEO friendly and presentable. I enabled the monetization feature. I’m not sure yet how often I’ll upload a video. The first one I did was a little too long. Bare with me through my learning process. The idea is to upload short inspiring and motivational videos maybe once every 2 weeks or once a week. Here is a screenshot of my channel. Please subscribe if you like what you see!
I opened an account at BlogHer to be added as a publishing network. I’m still too new to do this but that’s ok. They ask that your blog is at least 90 days and that you post once a week. Hence is been 2 weeks that I don’t post due to my overcrowded freelance schedule. So I have 60 days to prove myself and continue to make this blog oh so very pretty and useful! Here is the BlogHer introduction in case you are thinking on doing it too. I will check back with them around June.
I also signed up for Ziplist. They are a WordPress app that organizes recipes in a very neat way on my post. The best part is they have great features that are helpful for meal planning and organization. Their platform helps to bring audience to my recipes and their recipe card offer other advertising relate to my recipes on the card. I still have to create more recipes as of now I only have this one. I will be creating more! so stay tune. Below you can see samples of how the recipe displays on the post and how the ads appear on the box . The screenshots from Olena at Ifoodreal.com she has been my true inspiration and guide, so please check her out for even more inspiration.
This is a whole new world for me. As you know writing in english is still somewhat challenging for me. I love challenges, so that’s not a problem. But just so you know this part of my plan might take longer as I gain more practice. Anyways, I sent 2 pitches to two different website this month. One was an non-paid opportunity in Spanish which I will use as a learning platform, a vehicle to bring new audience to my blog and a way to leverage my voice into the industry. The second one was an opportunity in Spanish and in English, I haven’t received response yet on this one. If you would like me to blog in English or Spanish, don’t hesitate to let me know here (scroll down to the end of the page to see my email)
I was invited to be part of a blog network. I’m not sure about doing sponsor posts yet. What I have in mind is to make my content available through e-books and other unique local events and services. I haven’t join yet because also I want to build a strong audience first and get my newsletter going. But I’ll be keeping this door open, especially if the product really resonates with who I am. I’ll keep you guys posted on this.
What I’m planing for next month
Next month I’m planning on doing one more affiliate program, adding AdSense and start the planning for a local gathering service. I’m trying to decide between grocery shopping trip (this is something a couple friends have asked for) or a time management afternoon. I’m also not completely sure about when exactly I’ll be ready for these gatherings, but I will like to start planning them. Hopefully I’ll set them up for June or July.
So I now have a big chunk to put towards the lawyers fee and I’m hoping next month I’ll be starting to add extra moola to my car payments
What so you think? I’m very excited about my progress this month. How was this month for you? I would love to hear your thoughts. Remember that what we share can be medicine for someone else and for sure a step closer to a stronger vida!
